all art lovers this is a must attend, asap! KEITH HARING! nobody does it better!

Keith Haring: The Ten Commandments
Date: Sunday, December 21stTime: 2:00pm - 8:00pm

Location: Deitch Projects in Long Island City (4-40 44th Drive, Queens) Cost: Free

The Ten Commandments, one of Keith Haring’s most powerful series of paintings, will be presented at Deitch Studios, Long Island City, from November 8, 2008 – February 15, 2009. The works portray the Ten Commandments from Haring’s point of view, combining a traditional Biblical interpretation with the artist’s liberating spirit and apocalyptic vision. The Ten Commandments were painted for Haring’s first solo museum show, a 1985 exhibition at the CAPC, Bordeaux, a reconverted wool warehouse with a span of twenty-five foot high archways supporting the roof. Thinking about how to best use the space, known as “the nave,” Haring had the inspiration to order ten tablet shaped canvases to fit within the arches. While on the dance floor at the Paradise Garage the day before leaving for Bordeaux, he had a vision to paint The Ten Commandments.

AARON DOUGLAS (Modernist/Philanthropist/Educator/SuperDOPE!)

Aaron Douglas is a gem of the Harlem Renaissance. His artwork personified the resiliency and tenacity that was the essence of African America in the 1920's. He was born just before the turn of the century, 1899 in Topeka, Kansas. He used his love for the arts to establish himself as an local painter, later attaining a M.F.A. from University of Nebraska in 1922.

Be that a success in itself, he began to teach arts in nearby Lincoln High School and soon after moved to Harlem, then epicenter of black thought, to test the waters. He left with no inclintation as to whether he would find work as an artist or if he did, whether his work would be accepted by those who had namesakes. Joining the New Negro Movement of the Harlem Renaissance, he flourished and his pictures last as both relics of that era and examples by which many artist follow to this day.

As a Modern artist he put the art world on its ear by combining the themes of slavery, black empowerment and the more contemporary ideas of industry, self image and racial and social identity. His work was featured in publications from Langston Hughes, James Weldon Johnson, social magazines of the period and his work has been prominently displayed throughout Fisk University and its varying departments. I visited the Smithsonian this summer and was blown away.

Put simply, He's SUPERDOPE! If you can, check him out @:http://www.aarondouglas.ku.edu/

AUTO-SEX... Best... Kicks... Ever!

Jim Greco’s signature model, the Suprano High, gets the royal treatment with a tonal metallic purple upper. Staying in tune with Supra’s production of more color friendly high top sneakers, the Suprano surely holds it own with the arrival of Terry Kennedy’s signature kicks waiting on deck. Fully equipped with SupraFoam cushioning, mesh ventilation and Velcro support, this special colorway is set to release in early January 2009 at select Supra retailers including Factory 413.

Noone on the corner has swagger like... PUNK! (DAFT PUNK that is...)

Words Via HypeTrak:

Daft Punk’s Electroma is a cult classic film directed by the legendary French Electronic duo. The plot revolves around two robots trek across the American landscape and their quest to become more human. The film is engulfed in the groups signature synthesizer stabs and bleeps as it’s soundtrack and score backdrop. If you have yet to see the film you’re not alone. The movie never formally debuted on screens, only enjoying a few festival and tour screenings as well as a DVD and Blu Ray distribution. However, this Friday you can view the film for free for one night only by setting your web browser to PitchforkTV. The movie will be shown on the site on Friday, December 12th 8 p.m. EST and concludes precisely 24 hours later, aka 8 p.m. on Saturday, December 13th. Check out the original trailer to the film above and be sure to catch the screening tomorrow.

Going on a trip of sorts...with no seats...!

Im going to be taking the 3 weeks til my birthday a little more seriously...Im going to be wild old, so I think I need to prioritize rather than glorifize (if thats a word...*weezy shout). And as such I will be taking this 3 weeks to take a holistic look at my life... no this is not anything wild terminal .... Im just gonna use this 3 weeks to accomplish all the tasks I put before myself:

Create a T-Shirt (To be sold exclusively through this blog! plug plug...ahhhthankyou...)
Register for School (again, I kno...)
Pay a Jukutist Balance on my Stank of America Card
Eat No (added/jukutist) Sugars
Find a 3rd Job (again, I kno)
Develop 3 tangible pieces of art
Stroll at a party
Drop this bag of clothes off to a charity already...
Play a game of BBALL
See a family member I haven't seen in a while
See a friend I havent seen in a while
Make a new friend
Read a New Book
See a Foreign or Independent Film
Take a Hilarious Picture and tag one of my friends as myself...
Eat a new food
Listen to Advice
Go one day without cursing
Formulate a tattoo idea
Write a thank you note to someone who deserves it...
Become more organized
Go to a Museum or Art Gallery
Scare the Heck out of someone...and much more...

KAWS Exhibit Twerk

So I of course missed the opening, but still a great experience regardless. KAWS has been a pioneer in taking abstract themes and pop culture icons and melding them in a fusion of coolness. This was me and my man Rell @ the Gehry/Lopez... almost got slandered by the deskhelp until we told them we were there to see some "graffiti"... thanks blanco!

yeah my Gz!

So im out her in a smalltown, MD... thinking to myself... wow NY is really an awesome place. I ne'er knew I could miss home so much. As my mind begins to ramble (and not roam) I find myself thinking of the last year I have spent in my hometown, NYC. The familiar odors of a train ride through Harlem @ 4 AM. The blatant yet veiled racism in most public eateries and elevators. The sheer delight on the jubilant homeless mans face when he knows he'll have a beer in his stomach before nights end. I know this feeling...I call it HOME.

In a very short time I will be lieving a place called HOME. (and yes its spelled like that on purpose). I hope to see you when I return to the HOUSE. peacington my Gz.

I want an honest and fallacy free statement. pause, no Gilz. You all remember this triumphant moment in contemporary film and/or cinema. The unification of a diverse American family, for its time- a wellspring of change and progress. But look we are not too far removed from the olden times.

Marc Jacobs X Louis Vuitton

This dvd has been entertaining me for the last 3 weeks and I thought I share it with you.
MJ x LV=Undeniable Swag

Since Louis Vuitton was revamped into an international brand in 1989 and brought Marc Jacobs on as its creative director and head designer some years later, it has shared in the success and brand cult following that is Marc Jacobs. Marc has an undeniable niche for melding the creative, destructive and chic... So much that the LVMH company sees profits increase at least 60% annually. He has taken the brand far beyond any expectations and brought its once exclusive fashion to the world.

My best friend Terrell and I have been die-hard Marc fans since '04-'05 because of its versatility and comfort. From its sneakers to its shirts and book bags all the way to its runway based apparel, you can find something you will love. If you haven't become acquainted yet with the man- please do. Be sure to visit www.marcjacobs.com and check out the DVD @ any of the links below.

(very cheap dvd! cheap in price not quality)
(very expensive! same quality)
and be sure to check out...

JUST BORED but HEY...

Many have one, but few know how to use it...

Can u tell me what it is?

Welcome all to what I hope is your first of many visits to a world built on the unconventional, vice-filled and eclectic mess that is my mind... which has become to me: worldPHOUR. It is a place that you too have been past or through but never made your residence.

LETS HAVE SOME FUN!
